Donald Trump’s Greenland ‘Kuru Manama’

The US president Donald Trump stated, ‘the US will be gaining control of Greenland’.

It is the largest of three constituent countries of the kingdom, the other two being metropolitan Denmark and the Faroe Islands. The citizens of both territories are full citizens of Denmark. Since Greenland is one of the EU overseas countries, citizens of Greenland are also citizens of the EU.

“I think we’re going to get it (Greenland),” Mr. president said, adding that the world’s largest island with a
population of around 60,000 ”want to be with us”.

It was a colony of Denmark until 1979 when it became self-governing with its own parliament. It was also a territory of Denmark. Copenhagen in Greenland exercises control over it’s foreign and security policies.

President Trump told reporters, recently after Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen insisted ‘Greenland was not for sale’ in a fiery phone call with the US president last week.

Under the current world balance of power, Mr. Trump floated the prospect of buying the vast Arctic territory during his first term in 2019 and has told US control of Greenland is an ”absolute necessity”  for international security.
